Good morning and welcome to 49ers in 5, your daily update on everything happening with the team that you need to know.

0:14.1

I'm Rob Stats Carrera.

0:15.2

Today is Thursday, August 7th, 2025.

0:18.0

Here's what's happening with your San Francisco 49ers.

0:22.3

Today is a big day. It's not game day, but it almost feels like it because the Broncos are coming to town for joint practices.

0:30.6

Yesterday on KNBR, Kyle Shinnahan talked about exactly how excited he is.

0:35.6

We're at our peak tomorrow. So we get our most reps and we're ready for it. And I'm glad that we get a practice with that many reps, but it's cooler to be able to doing it versus different schemes versus different people. When you go against yourself every single day, it's fun for a little bit. But by the second and third week, guys are so sick of going against each other, Sick of going against your teammates. Sick of going against the same coverage, same plays, same fronts. And you're really ready for something new. And we're prepared for it now physically just with our conditioning and pumped to have a really good team coming in here tomorrow. It should be a hell of a day of work. Kyle always says the joint practices mean more than the game.

1:11.9

So today is a big deal.

1:13.8

It's going to be a long practice.

1:15.6

They're doing full reps with big implications in the coach's mind.

1:19.7

There's going to be a ton of news coming out of San Francisco later today.

1:24.2

Other interesting things, Kyle Shanahan said.

1:26.8

For one, he's not going to call plays this weekend and maybe not for the whole preseason. Yeah, I haven't decided for the whole time, but I know he'll do it this week and he'll most likely do it through the whole preseason, but I've got so much confidence in Clay, just how good of a job he's done for us, how long him and I've been working together here that, I mean, it doesn't bother me in the season. I mean, there's times that Clay will call plays. There's times that I will. And I do think that it's a little bit overrated on who's doing it, you know, for the most part. I mean, not much is going to change. That's something that I really enjoy doing, something that I've always worked at and have a lot of experience of.

2:08.0

But we work on the game plans all week together. And it's not just Clay and I, but all the coaches are involved.

2:17.5

Chris Verster's a big part of that. Brian Fleury is a big part of that. And usually when you get to game day, you have an idea of everything that you're going to call in each situation. And I can be a little bit overrated.

2:19.4

But that's why I have no problem at any time in this season,

2:22.3

letting Clay take a series or two or whatever it is,

2:26.0

because I don't think there's that much difference in what we're doing.

2:28.8

Kyle can say it doesn't mean anything, but I continue to not believe that.

2:33.8

Kyle loves calling plays. He has said it

2:36.0

himself. It's boring for him. When he is not doing it, I think there is a reason behind it. Remember,

2:42.9

last season when he didn't call plays, it was because he was listening to Nick Sorenson on the
