Welcome to the happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Robert Puff. I want us to look at two very important questions today. I think that really shape our lives.

0:17.0

The first one is, there's usually something we really want in life, some material possession that we think if we get it, we'll be really

0:26.8

happy. And if we don't get it, there's something wrong. It's like our lives just isn't complete.

0:33.0

Not having that thing creates an us both suffering and craving,

0:37.0

and we just can't wait and hope that someday we'll get that thing.

But what's going on here? Why is this happening?

1:21.5

So what creates desires? Where do our desires come from?

1:25.2

We're actually conditioned. You could perhaps use a word brainwashed into thinking

1:30.7

that certain things if we had them would just make our lives wonderful.

1:34.8

Sometimes this brainwashing comes from people or around, they have something,

1:39.2

they say is wonderful and we want that.

1:41.2

And often it comes from the media. The media is telling us if you have this item

1:46.1

your life's going to be wonderful. I'm going to use an example to illustrate this point.

1:52.1

Imagine that you and I got together and we decided to
