we've been talking about different aspects of what history has called the Overland campaign.

It started when, in the spring of 1864 in Virginia, Ulysses-S. Grant had set the several

federal armies there in motion against the Confederates, with the spotlight being on the

contest between the Army of the Potomac and Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia.
