Summary

Ready to discover your personal Style Statement and walk into every season of your life knowing exactly WHO you're dressing? This is the work we're doing inside the membership in June. Join us at https://schoolofselfimage.com/go

For most of my life, I hated shopping. Not because I didn't care about clothes – but because I had no idea who I was dressing.

I was buying what the mannequin wore. What the sales associate pulled with confidence. What the woman in the magazine made look effortless.

I'd get home, lay everything out on the bed, and still have no idea who I was.

So I created a discipline. Three filters. Three questions every piece has to answer before it comes home with me.

In this episode, I'm sharing why most women are quietly living with closets full of near-misses, why that's a self-image problem, and the shopping secret that changed everything.

Here's what we cover:

  • Why a closet full of near-misses is actually a self-image problem

  • Filter One: Fit – and why body knowledge is one of the most freeing things you can have

  • Filter Two: Color – and why the "black is chic" rule may be quietly washing you out

  • Filter Three: Style – and how a Style Statement becomes the North Star for everything you wear

  • How the Style Triad changes your life, wallet, and confidence

  • The invitation: what becomes possible when you start dressing a woman you know

this episode is for you. Listen, I used to hate shopping, and I know that probably sounds strange

0:13.6

coming from someone who now talks about clothing as a form of self-expression, but for most of my early adulthood, walking into a store would make

0:24.6

me feel anxious, overwhelmed, and a little defeated before I had even touched a hanger. Because I had

0:31.6

no plan, I had no sense of my own style, no rhyme or reason for what I reached for. I was buying the dress I had

seen in some magazine on a woman who wasn't living my life. I was buying what the sales lady

pulled from me because she seemed so confident and I wasn't. So her confidence felt like a good enough reason to hand over my credit

card. I was grabbing whatever I saw in the mannequin because if it looked good on a plastic skinny

human, obviously it would look good on me, right? I was so wrong. And here's what would happen.

1:10.1

I would go home. I would lay everything out on the bed,

1:13.8

and I would feel and overwhelm that a woman feels when she's surrounded by new clothes and still

1:20.4

has no idea who she is. Not to mention, I often had buyer's remorse, because deep down,

1:28.9

I knew that these pieces weren't right. So inevitably, the dresses would just hang in the closet with the tag still on,

sometimes for months. Or I would wear something once and then I would look at a photo and think,

the woman in the magazine looked amazing in this and I just looked drab.

Or I would put a piece on and spend the whole night adjusting it, fidgeting, tugging at it,

and wondering why nothing ever felt quite right. Why? Because I was shopping as a woman who did not know herself, and the clothes just showed it. Here's the thing.
