Summary

Where is God in our depression and despair? How do we live in between the two realities the Bible presents of a "fallen world and fragile body" and "future wholeness and glory?" On this episode, we sat down with one of our dear friends who knows what it's like to be at the very end of yourself and ready to take your own life; but God caused his story to continue. Tune in to hear some from-the-heart insight on what it looks like to still be a work in process after surviving suicide and presently battling depression. If you or a loved one has ever struggled mentally or emotionally, this episode is for you.

Hey, hey guys, what's going on? Welcome back to Ask For Me in My House podcast. I'm Jordan and today is a very very special day because my good friend Zeke and brother in the Lord is here.

0:22.0

And Zeke, welcome to the podcast. Thanks so much for being here, bro. Thank you so much for having me, Jordan. So Zeke, we're just talking upstairs a little while ago.

0:32.7

As we were getting ready for this about how Zeke and I met and it was I guess better way of saying it would be getting reconnected.

0:39.8

So Zeke, want to tell us a little bit about how we got back. We're like re-acquainted from the floor. Okay.

0:46.2

So you guys know where Zeke is coming from and kind of who he is. Yeah, to keep it short. I knew Jordan from Little League football or I knew of him. I didn't actually know him.

0:58.4

But he was a couple years younger than me. He was probably about like 10. I was about like 13, 14. And after I knew about him in Kent Line's football, I finally got to actually meet him later on in life.

1:13.2

I'd say what year was it like 2011 somewhere around there. Yeah, 2011. So nine years ago found out that he was leading a group called Steleship of Christian athletes accidentally.

1:28.4

There's no coincidence in God's mind. Right, right, right.

1:34.0

But yeah, that was we were just sitting there and all of a sudden Zeke and I we kind of connected during the conversation of what we're talking about that night at FCA and I remember Zeke saying, hey, you're Jordan, right? And I said, yeah, yeah.

1:46.2

It's like, yeah, I didn't you play Kent Line's football. I was like, yeah. So it was just it was cool to see how you know 10 plus years later.

1:53.4

Right. The Lord brought it back full circle. Well, not even 10 years, but you know around the roundabout. Yeah, the Lord brought us back full circle.

2:00.6

This time it wasn't the context of sports, but of our faith in Jesus. So I got to know Zeke and we just really headed off and went to Bible study together. I went over to his house and would study the word in the morning with him and his father, which was some of the coolest memories I ever had in my spiritual journey. Actually.

2:19.6

So yeah, it's just been a brother to me in every sense of the word and we're just honored to have him. But he decided to come on this this episode. We've been trying to focus as you guys know this month around mental and emotional health and wellness and kind of from this idea of how do we approach some of these really heavy conversations and topics from sometimes to be quite honest things that Malayna and I have never battled with.

2:48.6

I thought to say that we're better than or have something over anybody else because it's actually opposite. We don't have that experience. We don't have that knowledge and insight to to glean from.

2:58.6

So we talked to Zeke. I said, Hey, man, I know you've walked through some valleys and some shadows in your life and in your your walk with the Lord. Would you be interested in coming on the podcast and sharing some hope and encouragement from your story.

3:11.6

Still in process and kind of in a present tense situation because I think this is something we're going to get into a little bit more but there's such a stigma around dealing with some of these tough issues like depression and suicide.

3:25.6

Right because you'll hear a lot of people from church, you know, speak from everything past tense like, Oh, I was into this. I was dabble in that. I was addicted to this. This was what my day looked like. But then I met Jesus and everything changed right. It was a complete one eight like overnight. I completely trade. And it's like not to say that that doesn't happen. Of course. Right. That's a great. We're not knocking that. And that's a powerful testimony. But I think that's really like you said, Zeke. That's the minority of these situations. Right. What seems to be.

3:54.6

To be a true 180 conversion story isn't always like Jordan said it's not overnight or it's not overnight. Yeah, it's not instant. Yes.

4:06.6

Sometimes there's a process and it looks like sanctification more so than an immediate 100 180% 180 degree turn.

4:19.6

There may be a definite 180 turn in the heart. But to live that out sometimes looks more like a process and a daily following of sometimes failing but always being in knowing that there is grace and that there's a chance to be redeemed in it.

4:38.6

You hit the nail in the head man. You said it's sanctification right. The day that we come to know the Lord and we surrender and he now is our Lord and Savior. We don't instantly not everything after that is instantly our our nature and our our behaviors and all that is completely perfected like no we're on the process we're on the journey. Right.

4:59.6

So in these conversations of our mental health or physical health like just if you were to to spray your ankle or you know broke a bone or something like that you can get treated and cared for immediately.
