There was a gentleman who came, we were assigned to Dick James music as songwriters, the same publisher

as the Beatles, so it was kind of high profile. And this was the guy who had signed us to write

these songs for the middle of the road people that didn't work out. And as we started writing,

along came this guy called Steve Brown who was sort of the in-house hippie where everybody else was

straight laced. And he basically called a spade a spade and he said, you guys, you know, you have potential.

You cannot keep writing this crap for other people. It's no good and it's not going to work.

But I like some of this new stuff that you're doing, but you need to do it for yourselves.

And slowly but surely we realized that Regd White had to be the singer of these songs,

but he couldn't remain Regd White. We had to think of another name that was more appealing

hence he became Elton John.
