part of a living series, I had the opportunity to attend

actress, author, Taraji P Henson's event live at the Baird Auditorium in Washington, D.C. recently.

Washington, D.C. of course is Henson's hometown and as part of the program all audience were given to Raji Henson's new book a memoir titled

Around the Way Girl.

I had a chance to speak to Taraja P. Hansen for a few minutes just prior to the event

when she described the book, Her successful life in Hollywood, family, spirituality, and her sense of life as

Cookie Lion, the outrageous, wonderful matriarch of the ambitious dysfunctional family and music dynasty real person that

ends in plays on the hit TV series Empire a role that's made her famous.

I asked to Raji Henson about the title of her book,

Around the Way Girl, and what that means to her. Around the Way Girl and what that means to her.

Around the Way is like saying from the hood

and also, L.L. Koojay wrote a song called Around the Way Girl.

forged your own way and that other black

actresses like Halle Berry who fought for parts just like you did. God bless

Halle Berry even though Hollywood loves her, she had to create her own lane.
