Hey, everybody. We've got a great one today that's not political for a change.

Not about a public policy issue that gets a whole bunch of attention on the news shows, but actually should.

It's about how the pandemic has affected the families and especially the kids

in families without a lot of resources. And in many cases, not a lot of resources is a big

understatement. This past year has, of course, been extremely difficult for all of us, for everyone.

For everyone, it's a global pandemic. Here in the United States,

we've had over 470,000 people die. Good percentage of Americans have lost someone close to us

to this pandemic. But for people of color, for people living in poverty, those numbers have

been higher. And in so many ways,

their lives have been much more difficult. And we as a nation, we just haven't handled that part of it

particularly well. But there are a lot of heroes. Of course, the frontline health care workers,

thank you on behalf of all my listeners.

Thank you.

But a lot of other heroes, too.

And I'm going to be talking to three of them today.

One is my daughter Thomason.

She wouldn't consider herself a hero, but I do.

Thomason works for the D.C. public school system and her job is working with their partners,

and there are a lot of them, and I'll explain that in a bit and why I consider my daughter a hero.

Now, my wife, Frannie and I have been very lucky to be in our daughter's family's bubble.

We happened to be in D.C. when COVID started, and unlike a lot of friends of ours, we've

gotten to be with our grandchildren and help out Thomason and her husband, who's a very established
