Hey, everybody. Depending when you listen to this, the impeachment trial of Donald Trump is either about the start or is underway or finished years ago.

Because it lasts a long time. But Jamie Raskin, of course, is the lead manager of the House team of the prosecution, and I know he's

going to do a great job. But I just wanted to do, you know, my final argument, the one I would do

at the end of the trial before. It goes to the members of the Senate, many of whom are my former

colleagues. And I know a number of the

Republicans, and I think this would be extremely persuasive to them. I'm not quite sure. But,

so I hope you, I hope you listen and get something out of it, maybe even, I don't know, enjoy it.

Distinguished members of the Senate and the rest of you.

Adam Schiff was right where I'm standing just over a year ago, making his closing argument

in Donald Trump's first impeachment trial. And in that impeachment

trial, manager Schiff said basically, everyone in this room knows who Donald Trump is, and that if

you don't convict, he will do this again. You know Donald Trump will do this again.

And I think most of you probably knew that he would. And he did. Not the exact same thing. To get impeached the first time,

he shook down a foreign leader by threatening to withhold military aid, which his nation

desperately needed in a war for its very survival.

He threatened to withhold it unless President Zelensky would announce that Ukraine had begun a corruption

investigation against Joe Biden. For what goal? Well, he thought that Joe Biden was the biggest threat to his own

reelection and that the announcement of an investigation by Ukraine would help him get reelected.

And you'll remember, according to the president's counsel in that impeachment trial, that was just

fine. Alan Dershowitz said in defense

of Donald Trump, and I quote, if a president does something which he believes will help him get

elected is in the public interest, that cannot be the kind of quid pro quo that results in impeachment.
