Summary

In this episode I pull back the curtain on our relationship with technology and reveal how platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and even YouTube are reshaping our nervous systems, stealing our choices, and silently eroding the depth of our relationships. I break down the psychology of manipulation baked into algorithms, how dependency mirrors toxic relationship dynamics, and why our phones have become the most powerful—and most destructive—relationship in our lives. This isn’t just a critique of social media; it’s a wake-up call to reclaim your sovereignty, restore choice, and consciously design a healthier relationship with technology so you can fully show up for yourself, your purpose, and the people you love Resources: —Get My Book! 0:05.3

Wanted to have a conversation. If you're someone who's noticing that Instagram is dying,

0:11.6

a very slow, but it seems like more of a quick death now. I'm going to talk a bit about the

0:16.9

psychology and like what's going on in our brains and our nervous systems that that's true,

0:20.8

but also why YouTube seems to be different. So you as a YouTube user likely have the capacity

0:26.5

for a longer attention span. Now listen, YouTube shorts are constantly cycling and those hit

0:31.2

our dopamine centers and just keep us going and going and going. And listen, the algorithm is so

0:35.5

good now that it will keep you here mindlessly,

0:39.1

just like Instagram and TikTok do. But there has been a very rapid demise of those other platforms.

0:45.3

Now, I think as a creator, what's really fascinating is when you create on a platform like YouTube,

0:50.4

you get compensated for your content. So I don't make very much money from something like this,

0:55.4

but at least there's a value exchange. And because there's that relationship of reciprocity,

1:00.6

if you're a business owner and entrepreneur, creator, this place is just going to feel better from

1:05.3

a psychological perspective because there's this like, hey, we're grateful for you.

1:12.3

Your content is getting reached.

1:14.9

You're actually creating better content all the time.

1:18.5

And so we're going to reward you by paying you for that.

1:21.0

There's something very important in the human psyche,

1:25.9

in the psychology of influence of when you get paid to do something,

1:27.0

you feel like you owe them.

1:28.3

When you give something to someone you feel like they owe you. This is the law of reciprocity. And so what's going on in YouTube

1:34.0

once you get enough subscribers to be able to get paid is at least there's this nudge to say,
