I've lived in London for 15 years, but I grew up on a farm in the middle of nowhere outside the city of Cork in the Republic of Ireland.

The house I grew up in is an old Georgian-era farmhouse, and yes, I suppose it could be described as a little creepy.

There is a long avenue leading up to the house, and while picking daffodils on it one day with my mum when I was three, I disappeared out of sight.

My mum was naturally frantic when she turned around and I had gone.

However, when I reappeared about 15 minutes later, all I would say was that I had been talking to a man.

My mum would later rebrand this as talking to the buggy man upon future retellings of the story.

I know children will often speak to people who aren't there, imaginary friends, etc.

But I have the clearest memory of speaking to an elderly man in the bushes that day.

We spoke for what felt like a very short time

and then he said,
