0:00.0	Welcome back and thanks for watching part one where we went over the appointments for a
0:15.2	traditional altar and today we're going to continue that with the traditional
0:19.4	vessels that are used in the traditional rights and sacraments of the church.
0:24.7	So we'll begin, of course, with the sacred chalice.
0:29.4	The chalice is the most important sacred vessel that we have in the Catholic Church.
0:34.7	It holds the precious blood and it's often the most ornate vessel we have in the church.
0:40.8	The chalice is set up with a purificator. A purificator is always made of linen and in the previous
0:46.2	video I explained why linen is so important. There's a cross usually sewn into the center of that. And on top of that is placed the patent.
0:55.2	And the patent is a dish where the sacred host is placed.
1:00.1	And during a low mass and then even more ceremonially in a solemn high mass, the patent is hidden.
1:06.7	Why is that? Well, the patent represents the home of Christ in a way it
1:11.3	represents the people of Israel. of
1:14.0	the people of Israel, the Jewish people and since his own received him not as St. John says in his gospel
1:20.0	the patent is hidden away by the subdeacon and there's a lot of mystery in this and we'll talk about it in another lesson.
1:27.0	But the subdeacon represents ancient Israel and the deacon represents the Gentiles and the priests represents Christ and so the
1:34.8	subdeacon blinds himself during the consecration he literally takes a veil he
1:41.4	puts the patent inside of it, and with that veils his eyes during the
1:47.0	consecration. This is a very dramatic element in the Roman right, and mystically it signifies the ancient Israelites being blind to the
1:56.9	mystery and the coming of Jesus Christ and sort of taking away his homeland, his landing pad here on Earth, ancient Israel, hiding it and then blinding themselves.
2:09.0	That's what's going on there in the mass with the subdeacon.
2:12.0	On top of that you see the pall and it's
2:18.8	square it's stiff it's linen sometimes decorated on top. It goes on top of that and it's used during the
