Welcome to the happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Robert Puff. Is everyone who is kind who really makes an effort to be gentle and respectful towards others happy?

0:19.0

No, of course not. Some people struggle with anxiety, they struggle with depression even though

0:25.5

they're a very kind person. But my next question is, is there anyone who really is unkind

0:32.4

who goes out of their way to really hurt others who is

0:36.5

happy? And I would say no, there are none.

0:41.1

If you decide to keep listening to this talk and at the end you disagree with me that may be the case but my hope is that I'll make a coded enough argument that you'll see the kindness has lots of benefits to us and those around us

0:56.5

and unkindness leads to the path of suffering. I want to start proving my point about unkindness leading to unhappiness by social media.

1:08.3

And what I mean is most of us, probably all of us, spend some time on social media.

1:13.7

And if we're on it, we'll probably see posts and videos or news articles about people

doing unkind acts towards others.

1:21.9

Now, to be fair for these people in these videos, we're only

1:26.5

seeing the part that the person recording the videos is talking about, so we don't see the whole

1:32.1

situation and what caused that person to be incredibly

1:36.0

unkind towards another.

1:38.1

But if you've ever seen these videos or read about an article about these heinous acts,

1:43.6

and then look at the comments afterwards,

1:45.8

what you'll see is just a plethora of vitriol

1:50.3

aimed at the unkind person. People in general hate people when they're unkind and they

1:56.6

will say so with strong verbiage. As a species overall people really hate them.

2:04.0

When people do unkind acts, they get so much anger and hatred towards them.

2:09.0

Sometimes they lose their businesses, sometimes they lose their jobs, sometimes police even go after them and they

2:16.1

put in jail.
