As a deer pants for flowing streams,
    so pants my soul for you, O God.
²My soul thirsts for God,
    for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before God?
³My tears have been my food
    day and night,
while they say to me all the day long,
    “Where is your God?”
⁴These things I remember,
    as I pour out my soul:
how I would go with the throng
    and lead them in procession to the house of God
with glad shouts and songs of praise,
    a multitude keeping festival.

⁵Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation ⁶and my God.

My soul is cast down within me;
    therefore I remember you
from the land of Jordan and of Hermon,
    from Mount Mizar.
⁷Deep calls to deep
    at the roar of your waterfalls;
all your breakers and your waves
    have gone over me.
⁸By day the Lord commands his steadfast love,
    and at night his song is with me,
    a prayer to the God of my life.
⁹I say to God, my rock:
    “Why have you forgotten me?
Why do I go mourning
    because of the oppression of the enemy?”
¹⁰As with a deadly wound in my bones,
    my adversaries taunt me,
while they say to me all the day long,
    “Where is your God?”

¹¹Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation and my God.

0:08.6	Psalm chapter 42. I hope you're ready to align your mind with the truth of God this morning
0:14.3	Psalm 42 is one that years back had a song composed about it. You may remember from
0:20.1	the 1970s and 1980s a song called As the Deer. This is the
0:26.2	Psalm that that song was created from. Let's begin reading in Psalm
0:31.1	chapter 42 verse number one says as a deer pants for flowing streams so
0:37.4	pants my soul for you oh God my soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? My tears have
0:49.1	been my food all day and night, while they say to me all the day long, where is your God?
0:55.6	These things I remember as I pour out my soul, how I would go with the throng and lead
1:00.1	them in procession to the house of God with glad shouts and songs of praise a
1:05.2	multitude keeping festival. Why are you cast down, oh my soul and why are you in
1:12.3	turmoil within me?
1:14.6	Hope in God, for I shall again praise him my salvation and my God.
1:20.9	Now do you get in your mind this word picture that David is describing? He is going
1:26.9	through a very difficult downtime. There's something going on in his life where
1:31.6	he feels that he's being mistreated that people are kind of
1:35.8	mocking him saying where is your God during all this time and he's he's very
1:40.5	almost oppressed he says his tears have been his food day and night and he is
1:45.6	consoling himself by looking inward and allowing his very hunger for God
1:52.1	himself to come to the surface. Have you ever been in that
1:57.4	place where you want so badly to be in God's presence and to experience him as your satisfaction.
2:06.0	Him as the one who fills your soul and satisfies your thirst, the hunger of your soul.
