And today we're talking about comedy legends, the Bowery Boys.

We're finally here, folks.

After years, years of talking about them constantly, we are devoting a full episode to the Bowery Boys.

This is not the first time that we've watched one of their movies on this podcast.

Won't be the last.

Many years ago, before the pandemic even, we did an episode on Poverty Row Cinema.

And who is more associated with Poverty Row than the Bowery Boys?

They are one of the longest running comedy teams going from Golden Age of Hollywood when they were teenagers to soused up alcohol bloated young men.

1937 and 1958, we can roughly chronicle it. What an insane run. And there are many asterisks and qualifiers you have to put in that run. But the point is, we did an episode on Poverty Row Cinema. These were, the Poverty Row Studios were these low budget studios that specialized in movies for the second half of a double bill, you know,

modest low-budget entertainment for rural and neighborhood audiences in the golden age of Hollywood.

And these were movies that were basically sold to theaters on a flat rental basis.

The margins were small, you know?

And the Bowery Boys, who made most of their movies for monogram pictures, they're like the kings of Poverty Row. They're the kings of Golden Age of Hollywood, low-budget cinema. And we watched a movie called Ghost Chasers for that episode. And I think I had seen a few Bowery Boys things over the years that's seen their Spooks run wild the Lagosie movie we sat down and watched

ghost chasers and if you go back and listen to that episode you'll find two broken men yeah we do

not find them funny at all I believe we say something along the lines of we will never find them funny

yes we said that this will not happen for us Bowery boys fandom we We have broad cinematic palettes and this is not part of it.

Now, I want to jump in right in now and say, I think that me and you are definitely now Bowery Boys fans.

Yes.

But the question and a question that's gone back all the way to episode one of this podcast is, but are they funny?
