Summary

Storytime!

In this episode, I talk about how I convinced my husband to participate in a contest eating increasingly spicier chicken wings. What followed was an intense HSP moment. Also, please note that the show will now be published every two weeks instead of weekly.

This is the highly sensitive person podcast, a weekly podcast for people who experience the world

0:08.0

brighter, louder, and more intensely. Join me on a journey of acceptance of our highly sensitive

person traits. Welcome to episode 46. I'm your host, Kelly. In this podcast, I share personal stories and

0:24.9

advice and rants about what it's like to be a person with sensory processing sensitivity.

And today's show is a storytelling show. Back in episode 13, which was titled Obsessing Over Details, I shared a story about carrying

0:40.9

way too much about sliced hollabred compared to my husband Jim. Do you remember that one? I was

0:47.3

surprised by how much feedback I got from that show. People seem to enjoy it and relate to it.

0:52.5

So today, I'm going to tell a little story about the

0:55.8

spicy chicken wing eating contest. I wrote about this in my blog a few months ago, so you

1:01.3

might already know the story. It's a story of excitement and crushing empathy. Before I start,

He writes, I connected with your book in a major way. I'm a 46-year-old male and have only just

1:19.3

learned about HSP this year and I've clearly been this way my entire life. I have felt different

1:24.5

and been made to feel different and was never exactly sure why, until I realized that I didn't see eye to eye with people. Certain smells and sounds send me into a fit. I prefer dark, cloudy, rainy days instead of hot sun. The list goes on and on, trust me. I think I feel crazy sometimes because I dislike living in my own skin because I'm even too

1:45.8

much for me to handle and that is exhausting.

1:49.8

Thank you for sharing this comment.

It's interesting what he said about simply being ourselves can be tiring and exhausting.

1:57.6

I am definitely short on patience with myself sometimes and I have to remind myself to give

2:02.6

myself a break. Think about the way that you talk to yourself and then ask yourself,

2:07.4

would you talk to other people that way? That helps me remember to be gentler on myself.

2:14.0

All right, on to the story. A while back, my husband, Jim and I went to an event that was holding a spicy chicken wing

eating contest.
