And today I want to talk about how an element of modern Bible translations, while it is

helpful in many circumstances, can end up hiding doctrines from us, even though it's

helpful.

And that element of modern Bible translations are the chapters and verses.

So it's funny.

I know a lot of Catholics, I'll speak with them, and they'll say, oh, I love getting into

the Bible.

I'll talk about it with my Protestant friends.

But I always feel overwhelmed because my Protestant friends, they can quote a lot of the

Bible chapter and verse, and I just can't do that.

This reminds me of what Scott Hahn said once about the difference between Catholics and

Protestants knowing the Bible.

Protestants know the Bible like how the mailman knows where everybody lives in the neighborhood.

The mailman knows that the Johnsons live on one, two, three Elm Street.
