0:42.6	Well, the voice you heard at the top of the show is Mark Mayfield, and I hope our conversation today is going to help us make sense of the report from the CDC that came out last week.
0:48.5	Sadly, this report highlighted and confirmed what many of us already knew.
0:53.2	More than ever before, our teenagers are struggling with loneliness and depression and even
0:58.5	thoughts of suicide.
1:00.2	This is especially hitting our girls as well as LGBT youth very hard.
1:05.7	Among teen girls, nearly one in three or about 30 percent seriously considered attempting suicide, and that's up nearly 60% from a decade ago.
1:16.1	1 in 5 or 18% have experienced sexual violence in the last year, and that's up 20% from 2017.
1:25.0	And more than 1 in 10 or 14% have been forced to have sex. Sadly, that's up 27% since 2019.
1:35.0	The report also indicates a high increase in suicidal thoughts among youth who struggle with LGBT-type experiences.
1:43.8	Well, where does help come from?
1:46.0	That's why I want to talk to Mark Mayfield today.
1:48.5	He's a counselor and author and a leadership coach.
1:52.0	He also has his own story of attempting and surviving suicide when he was a teenager.
1:58.4	As a therapist, Mark has specialized in teen depression and suicide prevention.
2:03.8	Today is going to share some practical ways that you can engage your teenager or somebody
2:08.6	that you know to create a safe space for them to talk, and he will offer you hope and
2:13.7	encouragement if you're a parent.
