Summary

Today I'm wrapping up with Terrance Martin, the dance captain and a swing currently on Hamilton's Philip Tour (and previously all over the world).

This week, Terrance talks about his international experiences with Hamilton, including how exciting it was building up that tour with alums from every production of Hamilton worldwide. He also walks us through the role of a Dance Captain and how the way he focuses on the intentions of each character really informs the way he communicates. He has to know the intricacies of every role while being super tuned into his cast mates so he can give both the show and his fellow actors exactly what they need to kill it on stage.

And on the topic of legacy (because it always comes back to that, doesn't it?), Terrance talks about being a founding member of the Black Artist Dance Collective, a program focused on supporting and connecting Black artists and building the community he never had.

Terrence has been so generous with his time and his spirit and it's so clear to see how his life

0:29.9

story to date has shaped him into the strong, honest, and incredibly empathetic artist and

0:35.6

person he is today.

0:36.8

Like, now that you've spent two episodes

0:38.3

with him, it makes total sense why Terence takes the time to create nuance and detail in every

0:43.6

role he plays, down to the way they sit or what their speaking voice might sound like. Why? Because

0:48.3

it's all about being seen, being validated, being yourself. I mean, honestly, I really,

0:52.9

I don't have too much to say at the top of his last

0:54.8

episode. Terrence left it all out there for you over these last two weeks. And this final

0:58.4

episode is really no different. I just, I guess I'll just say I love, love, loved spending

1:03.5

time with Terrence. I walked away from this conversation feeling super inspired. And yeah,

1:08.5

I hope you feel the same way. So let's just dive right into episode three, where Terence starts the international parts of his

Hamilton story.

So here we go.
