Summary

Talking point: dating, relationships, risk

I recently came across some work by Alexander (aka @DatePsych), where he put together some fascinating data. Turns out 45% of men between 18-25 haven't asked a woman out. Ever. What's the deal? Well, here are two of my theories, and I'd love to hear yours.

So date psychology came out with this new study that blew my mind.

0:09.0

I thought this was really wild.

0:11.0

And I'm going to talk about what I think is contributing to this, what's causing this, and what we can do about it.

0:17.0

I'm curious to hear your thoughts as well.

0:19.0

But what they found was that 45% of young men

0:21.9

between the ages of 18 and 25 had never,

0:24.9

not once, approached a woman in public and asked her out.

0:29.4

Not once had 45% of men.

0:31.8

Now, I don't know what the sample size was.

0:33.5

You know, this could be one of those samples

0:35.7

is like a thousand guys, right?

0:37.4

But I think it's still

0:38.0

indicative of the larger problem that seems to be happening in the dating world. Now, the

0:44.7

interesting thing was that 75% of women of that same age range, 18 to 25, said that they expressed a

0:53.1

desire to be approached by men. So you have 75% of women saying,

0:57.3

actually, I would like to be approached. I'd like for men to come talk to me. I'd like for men to

1:01.6

come and ask me out. But then you have 45% of men who literally have never approached a woman

1:07.4

and asked her out. So the probability of those women being approached,

1:12.2

you know, it's one of those things where it's likely the 5% of men, the 10% of men that are doing

1:17.3

the majority of the approaching and that are the most comfortable with it. Now, I'm of the

1:21.9

generation where, yes, you could pick people up online, you know, social media existed,

1:28.8

not when I was a teenager, but, you know, social media existed, not when I was a teenager,
