Summary

In this video, I explore the symbolism of decapitation in the Bible and Christian tradition. Beginning with Joseph’s interpretation of the baker and cupbearer in Genesis, we trace a pattern of “lifting up the head” through Scripture, martyrdom, the Eucharist, and ultimately the crucifixion and ascension of Christ. Along the way, we encounter Saint John the Baptist, the mystery of sacrifice, and the astonishing story of Saint Denis of Paris, who carried his own head while preaching after his martyrdom.

We're going to read it and see how relevant and how it shows beautiful, subtle, biblical symbolism. And then we're going

to show you how this symbolism carries through appears in other places in Scripture, and

0:44.1

then ultimately, as often gets resolved in Christ. And in the end, we're also going to see

0:48.5

one of the strangest saint stories you've ever heard, which is the story of Saint Denis, of

Paris, who carried his own head while he was preaching. And so here we go.
