| 0:00.0 | Hey, this is Jim. Welcome to Silent Sales Machine Radio. This is one of those many episodes that we like to drop midweek sometimes. Hopefully I can keep it short today, make my point, get in, get out, and leave you better than I found you with some new information today that will hopefully help you think through one of the challenges that I think |
| 0:22.5 | we see in e-commerce for those especially who are trying to make good decisions about what does it |
| 0:29.2 | mean to be educated. I think that's one of the words that's gotten lost in the shuffle of all this |
| 0:36.6 | redefining so many key words and important words in our |
| 0:40.3 | culture. And it has a lot to do with our e-commerce success as well, our business success. So the |
| 0:47.4 | question I'd like to propose is, what's the difference between going the educational route of going |
| 0:53.2 | to college, the traditional route, |
| 0:55.1 | versus getting an e-commerce education. Let's compare and contrast a little bit. I've got some |
| 1:01.6 | hard questions that I'd like to ask. Maybe you can consider these and answer them for yourself. |
| 1:07.7 | And among other experts, especially those who might defend the college route and getting a |
| 1:13.5 | degree and kind of look down on e-commerce as some kind of secondary, hardly worth considering. |
| 1:21.1 | It's not a legitimate opportunity for education. The two get treated very differently, |
| 1:27.3 | culturally, and I'm not sure why that is. |
| 1:29.7 | So I think I'm going to raise some points today that hopefully clarify what is the difference |
| 1:33.5 | between the two. Where do they overlap, which I think is a huge unexplored territory, where the |
| 1:39.5 | value of an e-commerce education, I would argue is as valuable, if not ridiculously more valuable than a traditional |
| 1:48.4 | college education or college degree in many, many instances. So let's just go through the |
| 1:53.8 | compare and contrast list that I have here. I'm going to ask you some questions for your |
| 1:57.5 | consideration. I'm not saying I am the world's foremost authority on this |
| 2:01.4 | subject. I have, however, if you're not familiar with me, I've been feeding my family. There's |
| 2:06.1 | seven of us for coming up on 20 years as the only income that we have, five kids, homeschooled, |
| 2:11.4 | all of them. I'll talk a little bit about that as well because my wife has launched a really cool |
