Summary
Angie Martinez is known as "The Voice of New York." Her afternoon radio show has consistently been ranked #1 with more young listeners than any other radio program in the country. She has over 20 years of experience in the industry and is also an author, actress, TV host and recording artist. Angie has worked alongside President Obama, and some of the media industry's biggest power players including Jay Z, Beyonce and Naomi Campbell. Last summer Angie made the switch to iHeart Media where she started The Angie Martinez Show on New York's Power 105.1 weekdays from 2-6p and on Miami's The Beat 103.5 middays from 10a-2p. Angie also has her own healthy living website, Healthy Latin Eating and a cookbook under the same name. This past May, she released her memoir My Voice, which recounts her story of how she became a multimedia icon in the world of entertainment. In our conversation we open some of the most fascinating pages from her book and life including how she started as a radio intern making $3 an hour. How did she work her way up the ladder? Also, Angie's had her fare share of financial mess-ups, including getting evicted...and not just once. Plus, how she managed to negotiate a more lucrative contract following her maternity leave.
