Welcome to the Beginners Garden podcast. I week, our family is on spring break,

which usually means for me that I am going headlong into gardening.

Now, I can't quite get my summer crops in the ground, but I can pretty much start getting

some good, cool season crops in and getting ready for my warm season crops. So this is the

beginning of a busy season for me. If you have been a listener of the

Beginners Garden podcast for any length of time, you may have noticed a particular subject I have

never talked about, and that is container gardening. And there's good reason. I try to talk about

things that even though I'm still learning, because we're always learning right. I try to talk about things that even though I'm still learning, because we're always learning

right, I try to talk about things that I have found a modicum of success with.

And unfortunately, container gardening is not one of those subjects.

It's not for a lack of trying.

In fact, I'm usually trying vegetables in containers just about every

year, but most years I end up disappointed. That's not to say that I haven't had some success,

and usually the success I have is in the form of cool weather crops like lettuce and spinach. I'm

able to do pretty well with those. But last year, I tried planting quite a few tomatoes and peppers in containers, and I'm sad to do pretty well with those, but last year I tried planting quite a few tomatoes

and peppers in containers and I'm sad to say they didn't do all that great.

Admittedly, I didn't babysit them enough because having a 3,000 square foot garden kind

of ties up my time a little bit.

But still, I know a lot of you guys do either plant in containers

or you want to plant in containers. And there's good reason for it. There are lots of excellent

reasons to plant in containers. And because container growing is something that many beginners want to

tackle, I wanted to be able to give you guys a place to start. So because I don't have
