Summary

Transformation is a journey of shedding old identities and stepping into our authentic selves — this episode explores that process with depth and vulnerability. Highlighting some of the most impactful conversations on transformation from this year, we revisit profound insights shared by influential guests who offer tangible hope and inspiration. Using the metaphor of a butterfly's metamorphosis, we navigate the phases of initiation — when the world as we know it no longer fits and we are called to evolve. With reflections on releasing past wounds, embracing uncertainty, and actualizing dormant potential, this episode inspires a profound self-examination. As the year draws to a close, it’s a powerful invitation to seize each moment as an opportunity for growth, rebirth, and boldly stepping into the life you envision. Hello and welcome to another episode of the Mark Groves podcast. You know, what does it mean to

0:04.6

transform? What does it mean to change? What does it mean to emerge as something different?

0:10.3

Because so often what happens is we get stuck in the transformation. We don't actually move

0:16.6

completely through it. We don't let go of the old thing and become the new thing. I think the metaphor

0:22.8

of the butterfly and the cocoon is obviously so powerful because the caterpillar is just chilling,

0:29.1

making its way through the world, and all of a sudden it's like, I guess I should just like

0:32.3

stop here on this leaf, hey? I don't know why I need to, but I do need to. And then it starts to

0:39.5

fricking wrap up in a little thing and then melt away. Like its body starts to disintegrate

0:46.5

into goo and then it takes a new form. And it feels like that is what transformation is like,

0:52.0

right? Because there's literally a death of the old

0:54.5

behaviors, the old way of being. And then there's the emergence, ideally, of the butterfly. And

1:00.3

sometimes we leave the cocoon too soon. We only got one freaking wing. Or sometimes we stay in it

1:06.4

because we don't trust the new world. Now, I think of this process, right, and is Francis Weller would call it,

1:12.7

or Young-Ean space of exploring psychology,

1:16.1

that you're going through an initiation,

1:19.0

that you're being initiated and invited by the world

1:22.3

into who you actually are,

1:25.7

into actually maturing into the adult version of you, of stepping into

1:30.3

your power, your voice, your possibility, that life circumstances invite this from us.

1:36.2

We don't always accept the invitation or we accept it, but then we stay at the party too

1:41.1

fucking long, right?

1:42.1

We stay too long and we know when we've done this.
