Gospel of Matthew with Chapter 7.

We continue on with chapter 7,

which is still part of the sermon on the Mount. You may remember that last week we talked about worry

the week before treasures in heaven and fasting, and today we talk about judging others.

Do not judge or you will be judged. For in the same way you judge others,

you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the

speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?

How can you say to your brother, let me take the speck out of your eye when all the time

there's a plank in your own eye?

You, hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly

to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

Jesus is pretty clear in here in the sense that judging is not our responsibility.

And the Bible says that elsewhere judging is the purview of God.

God is allowed to judge.

For one thing, God is perfect.

And so you can measure up to him.

We're not.

And that's really what Jesus is saying is be aware that you are sinful, be aware that you have places where

you fall down, be aware that you deserve judgment as much as or more than the person who you

are judging. We don't know the situations people's lives. We can't see inside them, all of those sort of things that
