My name is Eric Tivers. I'm a licensed clinical social worker, coach, and consultant.

We know that starting can be the hardest part, so let's get started.

For as long as I can remember, there were always certain things that seemed harder for me to

do. And for most of my life, I didn't know why. I mean, in some ways, I

always felt smart, but then in other ways, like my grades, not so much.

I wish I can remember exactly what it was that I said to my parents that convinced them to let me go back to school after I just finished a semester with a 1.8.

All I know is that I will be forever grateful.

And I will be forever grateful for that dinner that I had with that girl whose name that I've been trying for years to remember. She told me about ADHD. And what she described

was the first time that I ever heard anybody put into words what it felt like to be inside my brain.

I honestly don't remember exactly what she said, but I do remember how I felt. I can remember like it was yesterday.

That feeling of hope and possibility of wonder and excitement, validation and eagerness.

I scheduled an evaluation as soon as I could.

When I talked to other people with ADHD about that first experience they had with medication

and what it was like to feel normal for the first time? Well, that feeling is amazing, but it took me years,

years to realize that productivity fueled by Adderall was not going to be enough.

I set out to learn everything I could, about ADHD, the brain, productivity, time management, organization,

and goal setting.

When I started that journey, I was doing it for myself. I knew if I was going to get through grad school and have a successful career.

I needed to learn how to plan and organize my time and set priorities and not get sidetracked by little unimportant details.

My journey, probably much like yours, has been filled with a lot of ups and downs.
