I'm pulling on my driveway. We all know what that means. It's time for another drive to work.

Okay, so I did a series a while back called Designing Commons, and then relatively recently I made a series called Designing Uncommons.

You'll never guess where today is going. So today is designing rairs and mythic rairs.

I decided to lump them together because there's a lot of similarities between rarers and mythic rarers.

There's some differences.

I'll get to that today. But I'm going to talk about what it takes to design rare cards, rarers and mythic rairs.

So one of the things you'll find, if you listen to the previous

things, talk about commons and uncommonds, is that each rarity has a role it fills. Each

rarity is trying to do something. And rare has a couple different functions, but here's the

biggest function of rare is if you open up an average booster you will get one land 10 commons

three uncommonds and one rare and then roughly seven out of one out of every eight packs in the

rare slot you'll get a mythic rare and so one of rare's biggest jobs really is it's the splashiest thing in the booster.

It's the thing that gets the most attention in the booster.

Then when people open a booster, you get a rare or a Mythic Rare and that gets a lot of focus.

So a lot of designs of Rare's Mythic Rhares are about that focus.

The idea that you are the thing that people will focus on when they open it up.

So first and foremost, the role of a rare is to be what I will call splashy.

There are a bunch of different ways to be splashy.

Splashy just means that someone looks at you and gets excited and there's something about you
