Early the next morning, Jesus was back at the temple.

A crowd soon gathered, and he sat down and taught them.

As he was speaking, the teachers of the religious law

and Pharisees brought a woman they had caught in the act of adultery.

And they put her in front of the crowd.

Teacher, they said to Jesus,

this woman was caught in the very act of adultery.

The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say? The voices yank this lady

from her slumber. Get out of bed, you harlot. Get out of bed, you hussy. What kind of woman

are you anyway?

She was caught in the act of adultery,

caught like a mouse in a trap, like a rabbit in a cage,

caught in the act, in the arms, in the passion, in the room, in the moment.

But in the very act, they boasted, they being the religious leaders, the preachers,
