Summary

Tariff talks between the U.S. and China have officially started in Switzerland, and they’re expected to continue through Sunday. But before you celebrate the potential for an 80% import tax on Chinese goods, here’s the uncomfortable truth:

These tariffs may actually help Chinese sellers more than they hurt them.

In this episode, I break down how Chinese factories are still able to undercut U.S. brands—thanks to lower cost of goods, undervaluing shipments, and manipulating HS codes. I reference a recent Marketplace Pulse article that reveals how direct-from-China Amazon sellers are still thriving despite rising tariffs.

I also share a live case study with one of my agency clients, who's dealing with excess inventory, aged stock fees, and Amazon’s inventory utilization rate surcharges. If you're ignoring your FBA inventory metrics, you're probably paying way more than you realize.

And quickly, I do need to apologize.

0:29.6

I apologize if there are two episode 413s showing up in your podcast player.

0:37.0

I had a kind of a crazy late night fiasco where I actually

0:40.9

changed my podcast name to something different than built by business. And I wasn't supposed to

0:45.8

publish a specific episode. I went as far as uploading it to Libson, my podcast hosting platform.

0:53.1

But I thought I canceled it. So it wasn't supposed to be published,

0:55.7

but then I stopped publishing my player and then I published the real 413. So anyways,

0:59.8

apologize for the confusion on that one. But again, we're back on our little streak here of trying

1:03.6

to release quick daily podcast episodes for you guys to make sure you're in the loop, in the news.

1:08.9

And I'm really just trying to focus on

1:10.8

sharing what I'm doing on the day to day, things I'm working on and just really sharing my

1:16.5

actual experiences of running my businesses and helping other brand owners with their businesses.

1:22.4

Quick news update for you guys. The tariff talks are underway in Switzerland with U.S. and Chinese officials.

1:28.8

They kicked it off on Saturday and talks are going to continue through Sunday. Again, the big talk

1:35.2

is Donald Trump posting on a social media platform that he is potentially, I guess, willing to

1:40.0

drop the tariffs from 145% down to 80%. He said he was leaving it up to his official, Scott Besant,

1:47.3

to kind of make that call. So again, we're still kind of in the waiting game to see what comes from

1:52.2

this. But in this episode, I kind of wanted to focus on who actually wins from Chinese tariffs.
