Summary

Zuby is joined by investigative journalist and founder of Neutral Point of View, Ashley Rindsberg. Ashley shares how his research into The New York Times led him deep into the world of narrative manipulation, platform bias, and information warfare. He exposes how Wikipedia was quietly reshaped by Clinton-aligned operatives and Soros-linked funding following the 2016 election, and how that bias now flows directly into AI systems like ChatGPT and Gemini. They also discuss the scale of online influence campaigns, how to protect your mind from propaganda, and why less consumption is almost always the right answer.

I'm going to be having a conversation with investigative journalist Ashley Rinsberg. Welcome to the show.

0:10.7

Thank you, Zubi. Happy to have you here, Ashley. So for my listeners who are not familiar with you and your work,

0:16.1

please introduce yourself to my audience. I am an investigative journalist, like you said. I'm also the founder and

0:22.0

chief investigative officer of NPOV, and that stands for a neutral point of view, where we

0:26.7

investigate all sorts of narrative influence campaigns on online, on social media, on platforms like

0:34.1

Wikipedia and AI, chat GPT and Gemini.

0:45.0

So we do that in an effort to help shed light on what's actually going on inside of our information ecosystem.

0:49.6

Got that. And how did you get into this line of work? What interested you to get into this?

0:54.2

I originally wrote a book about the New York Times back in 2021.

0:56.3

We talked about that.

0:56.8

I forget.

0:59.3

It must have been around 2021, maybe 2022.

1:07.2

And it was a question of how the New York Times misreporting or fabrications, distortions,

1:09.7

shaped the course of history over the last 100 years.

1:11.7

So it was kind of in the same vein.

1:18.5

I started to do a lot more reporting about media and social media and some of the big topics that were fed into these spaces, including COVID, like the lab leak origin, and how that kind of all

1:24.8

got distorted by platforms that were just flat out manipulating the conversation,

1:29.3

sometimes in the behest of government.

1:32.3

So as I kind of pushed further into the space, I started to look at Wikipedia.

1:38.3

A colleague of mine named David Rosado, who's a machine learning researcher in New Zealand, did an interesting

1:45.3

study where he compared how figures from the left and from the right in politics are portrayed
