Summary

Mark 3:1–6 In today’s story, Jesus enters a synagogue on the Sabbath and meets a man with a shriveled hand. While others watch closely—waiting to see if Jesus will break their rules—Jesus does something unexpected. He heals. But instead of celebrating, the religious leaders become angry. Why? Because they cared more about their rules… than people. 0:04.0	Today's story is called A Handmade Hole.
0:09.0	This is part 10 in our Mark series and comes from Mark chapter 3 verses 1 through 12.
0:15.0	Last time, we learned about something called the Sabbath.
0:20.0	Do you remember that word? The Sabbath was a day of rest. Last time, we learned about something called the Sabbath.

0:23.7	The Sabbath was a day of rest, a gift from God.
0:27.8	A day meant for peace, for stopping, and for remembering him, and enjoying his beautiful
0:34.1	creation that points us back to him. It's similar to the word shalom, which means
0:40.8	peace, but not just quiet peace. It means a wholeness, things being the way they are supposed to be.
0:51.3	And we talked about how the Pharisees, the teachers of the law, had taken God's good
0:56.6	gift and twisted it, until the Sabbath, it didn't feel like a blessing anymore. Now, listeners,
1:07.4	imagine this with me. It's the Sabbath again.
1:11.8	The streets are quieter.
1:14.2	No one is working or selling items.
1:18.1	Sandals press softly into the dusty ground as people walk slowly.
1:24.4	And inside the synagogue, the place where people gather to worship, men sit in rows listening.
1:32.3	And who walks in? But Jesus.
1:37.3	Let's go ahead and pick up our story here.
1:43.3	Jesus enters the synagogue. and pick up our story here.
1:51.9	Jesus enters the synagogue, and in the synagogue there is a man.
1:59.9	We don't know his name, but we do know this. His hand is shrivelled. This probably means the man's hand did not move the way it should.
