The Bible Study Podcast, episode 402. Today, the Bible Study podcast continues the study of the book of

Psalms with Psalm 69.

Welcome to the Bible Study podcast. I'm your host, Chris Christensen. Psalm 69 is yet another Psalm of David.

It happens to be to the tune of Lilies, whatever that song may be. And it goes like this.

Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck. I sink in the miry depths where there is no foothold.

I have come into the deep waters. The floods engulf me. I am worn out calling for help. My throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God. Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head. Many are my enemies without cause.

Those who seek to destroy me.

I am forced to restore what I did not steal.

You God know my folly.

My guilt is not hidden from you.

Let's pause here and look at that.

One of the things that occurred to me as I looked at this,

we're obviously talking about David who feels over his head, David who feels overwhelmed, David who finds himself in deep waters metaphorically.

And it's interesting because it says, I have come into the deep waters, not the deep waters

come to me. This isn't a flood situation, but I think it's related to

verse five here, you God know my folly. This seems like wherever David finds himself, David probably

put himself. This is one of the situations where it wasn't circumstances that overwhelmed David,

apparently. But David's own mistakes led him into a place where he is

worn out calling for help. His eyes are failing looking for God. And as always, David finds himself

with a bunch of enemies. And David finds himself in that situation in his life at multiple times,

so we don't know exactly which we're talking about here, but we're probably later in David's

life, post-Beth Shiba would be my guess. But David needs help. David needs help, and he needs
