I think one of the things that's really appealing about both of your books

In one case, the first book was about Sicily and the other one is about the Kianti area and specifically comparing that to

So why don't we start with the Sicilian book and how you got involved and decided

I had an assignment to write an article about Sicily for Sante magazine.

It's a restaurant wine magazine and this was I think in 2008.

So we went together and this was for three weeks and we went around the whole

islands and it was an incredible adventure. In fact, the year before, Levy, we had spent, I think, probably two weeks in Greece and in advance of that trip.

I re-read Homer's Odyssey.

So when we went to Sicily, of course I was reminded of the passages in Homer's

Odyssey and how he characterized the native people of Sicily who populated Mount Aetna as a lawless tribe that grew nothing and planted nothing

and just lived off of the wild fertility of their land.
