Summary

Jen blasts Republicans for rejecting the Democrats’ border bill and welcomes legal expert Dennis Aftergut to break down the constitutional and legal means of stopping Trump.  They explore the possible outcomes of Trump’s quest to uphold presidential immunity in the courts, whether Section 3 of the 14th Amendment will keep him off any ballots, and if the SCOTUS is up to the challenges of the moment.  After his attempts to seat fake electors and commit insurrection, are our safeguards strong enough to defend democracy against authoritarianism?

Hi, this is Jen Rubin, and this is Jen Rubin's green room.

0:08.4

As we sit here on Tuesday, we do not yet know the results of the New York Third.

0:14.5

That is the seat that George Santos once held.

0:18.6

And they're filling that seat in a special election, and it's important for

0:24.0

several reasons. First of all, every seat for Democrats is one seat closer to winning back the

0:31.1

majority. Secondly, Republicans are still trying to impeach Secretary of Majorcas, and again, every vote counts.

0:40.4

And third of all, I think it's an indication that, once again, when voters get to the polls,

0:47.0

the results are often quite different than when pollsters ask them.

0:51.9

So we'll see how that turns out.

0:54.0

The next big piece of news, of course, is in the Senate,

0:57.6

they overwhelmingly passed the aid for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.

1:04.0

This was without the border measure,

1:06.3

because, of course, Republicans, after insisting they had to have a border security measure, voted against

1:13.2

it and insisted they had to vote on something without the border security. So they voted on it.

1:19.2

And what do you think Speaker Johnson had to say, of course, we're demanding that we get a

1:26.0

border security measure.

1:34.3

These people were the same ones who, yes, were saying that the border security measure was a bad idea and they wanted to save the issue for Donald Trump for next year when they presume he'll be back in the White House.

1:41.2

Wrongly, I hope.

1:42.7

So this is a joke.

1:48.2

Worse, it is just a sign of how cynical,

1:56.8

how irresponsible the Republicans are. They would rather see America harmed than lose their chance at keeping their seats and electing their cult leader. And it has been that way from day one since he rode down that elevator,

2:04.4

and it continues to this very day.
