Today we’re going to talk about how to help decrease uric acid in the body. We’re also going to talk about some of the conflicting information that revolves around that topic.
Uric acid is formed when it’s trying to breakdown purine, which is another compound found in foods. It’s mainly found in organ meats and meats but, it’s in certain vegetables as well.
Uric acid can act as an antioxidant in the body, and that’s one of the reasons it may elevate when you’re doing fasting—as a way to enhance your immune system.
When the pH of your urine becomes too acidic, this uric acid can leak out into the joints and cause gout. It can also leak into the kidneys causing uric acid kidney stones.
Ways to control uric acid levels:
1. Alkalize the body
You can try:
• Consuming potassium citrate
• Consuming more alkaline vegetables
• Taking baking soda
• Taking other alkalizing minerals like magnesium and calcium
2. Apple cider vinegar
3. Vitamin C (from lemons or lemon juice)
4. Reduce glucose and fructose
Uric acid food to avoid:
• Organ meats
• Sardines
• Asparagus
• Spinach
• Green peas
• Cauliflower
