Tales of mystery and the supernatural have possessed the villages and towns of the Hudson River Valley since ancient times. In this episode, Greg and Tom explore several of the region's spookiest legends.

There is a ghost ship that sails the waters of the Hudson River, a vessel that has vexed

those who have passed along this historic river for as long as any man can remember.

The ship is accompanied by terrible wind, rain and thunder, which seems to have been

summoned from the mountains themselves.

For the native tribes who lived on these lands, the mountains were home to malevolent

When the Dutch arrived in these parts, making new settlements in New Amsterdam at the

wrinkled this unseen evil even further, and it soon manifested in a physical form that

seemed to slither from the shadows of Dunderburg Mountain.

To unfortunate captains, steering their ships through these stormy waters, seeing the mysterious

ghost ship and its captain meant certain doom.

Washington Irving later wrote of these ship sightings, quote, the captains of the river

craft talk of a little bulbous bottomed Dutch goblin in trunk hose and a sugarloafed

hat with a speaking trumpet in his hand which they say keeps about the Dunderburg.

To the Dutch, this entity looked Dutch, even dressed Dutch.
