Summary
Habits for Happiness
We first make our habits; then, our habits shape us. The question to ask ourselves is what types of habits we create in our lives all day long. Things that we do matter. People who find happiness and peace in their lives make specific habits too.

| 0:00.0 | Welcome to the happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Rubber Puff. As we go through life, we create routines, |
| 0:12.0 | routines, habits, make things easier. It's just how do we spend our day? How are we going to use our time? |
| 0:20.0 | And it's easier if we know this is what we do every day. We get up in the morning and we brush our teeth and perhaps we have a cup of coffee too, just to wake up and get going. These are just habits. |
| 0:31.0 | So we first make our habits, but then what happens is our habits shape us. |
| 0:38.0 | For example, I think many of us get up in the morning and we brush our teeth and then at the end of the day we brush our teeth again. |
| 0:45.6 | And that habit usually keeps our teeth pretty clean, pretty healthy with not too many cavities. |
| 0:51.2 | When I was a kid, I didn't brush my teeth as often. My parents would remind |
| 0:55.3 | me and I wouldn't do it. And then I had a lot of cavities when I was a kid. But I don't remember |
| 1:00.2 | when it happened, but I started brushing my teeth every day, twice a day, and since that time I don't believe I've had a cavity during my adult life. |
| 1:08.0 | But I always remember this one story that my dental hygienist shared with me during a routine cleaning. |
| 1:14.8 | She talked about a man who had recently come in and he had not brushed his teeth or gone |
| 1:20.4 | to the dentist for over 40 years and he had severe health problems. |
| 1:25.8 | He was going to lose all his teeth and he might even die because of the infection he |
| 1:29.8 | had in his mouth. |
| 1:31.2 | It was really bad. But each of us, this man in me, had different habits. I had the |
| 1:36.7 | habit of brushing my teeth twice a day. He had the habit of not brushing his teeth at all. |
| 1:42.1 | And 20, 30, 40 years later, the results shaped us very differently. |
| 1:47.0 | Here's another real good example of that. |
| 1:51.0 | As we go through life, there are stressors. Some of them are external, some of them are in |
| 1:56.5 | our head, but these are things that bother us. And we will most likely create habits to deal |
| 2:02.4 | with them because we really don't like to be |
| 2:04.4 | under stress it's exhausting it's tiresome and it wears us out and so we develop |
