pornography for just a second. We've talked about masturbation. We started this

topic by using the word addiction but you know as I dug a little bit more into

this there's a there's a bit of a nuance you know there's a difference

between using terms like addiction and using terms like compulsions and

my guess is there's pornography use that isn't addictive or compulsive and

let's tease that out a little bit and then talk about whether you know this is

gonna sound blasphemous to conservative listeners and even to myself but ask

whether in your view there's a place for pornography at all in in the lives of

someone who's LDS. Okay well so let's start maybe with just

reclarifying the word addiction which in the past has mainly been used really

for substance related disorders in other words you know illicit drugs, alcohol,

cigarettes you know things that affect us physiologically. All of the studies

now with neuroscience show that behaviors also obviously affect our

neuropsychologies there's a big debate you know within the mental health

profession as to what behaviors other than substances can be qualified as an

addiction and so many mental health professionals are more comfortable maybe

with the word compulsion so maybe we can talk a little bit about those two
