and you'll find many styles from bold rich reds

to crisp dry whites and lusiously sweet late harvest wines.

Hungary's wine culture is rich and extremely historically important.

It was one of the first places to create a land plot ranking system for the best vineyards and the practice of

regulating fine wines was serious business to Hungarian royalty, especially to Prince

Racozzi who in 1700 wanted to make sure he got the best stuff.

The absolute best vineyards were in the category of chosen for the Royal Table. Gerta, who himself was a regular consumer of Tokai Asu,

and who may have even written under its influence,

got to the heart of the matter when he wrote,

The rich want good wine, the poor plenty of wine.

This idea of ranked land spread throughout Europe and eventually revolutionized the fine

wine world in the early 1900s as the AOC system became standard.

And then similar Appalachian controls became adopted by the EU.

Our whole paradigm of thinking about terraouar and wine quality can be traced to

Hungary centuries ago.
