Here you'll see one of the most well-preserved medieval wall fortifications surrounding

And a living testament to time, an incredible 700-year-old lime tree still grows outside the

It continues to flower, though today it has a little help standing from some man-made supports.

During the Renaissance period, wine was a popular European product, and Alsatian wine was one of the most

famous products. Alsas sat right along the Rhine, which served as an important trade

conduit to the rest of Europe.

But in the late 16th century,

several tragedies hit the region.

A witch hunt spread through Alsace,

and accusations of witchcraft ran rampant. In Bergheim, there were

several accused women who were blamed for crop damage to the wine business. One woman was accused of causing hail damage to a vineyard.

Another was accused of causing grape rot, and another was accused of turning wine bad.

Under torture, most women admitted to having caused these things
