So favorite question to ask any author of a work of history that has relevance and lessons for today.

Why this book, why right now, why is the story of how rising powers often lead to aggressive expansion? Why is that a relevant story right now?

So in one word, China, the multi million dollar question, I think for this century is going is will China rise peacefully?

Will it or will it be aggressive and expansionist?

And the historical record does not give a lot of optimism on this front.

I think if you look at rising powers throughout history, the one thing you see in common is that they tend to be aggressive and expansionist.

And by that, I mean, they pick fights with other great powers.

They invade and medallingly affairs of their neighbors.

And in general, they just try and dominate, you know, bigger and bigger slices of this world.
