Hello boys and girls welcome to another episode of Black Man Bealond. I'm Mark Bernard and I'm

your host. As always with these episodes Kevin Smith is out in the world. He's touring

Clirks 3. He's out being famous. He's doing Q&A for 3 o'clock in the morning. He's making sure

that you love him as much as he loves you. And so in the interim I like to hop on the feed and

just a have the conversation you know don't let the feed go dry and still be able to talk to you

guys about the stuff that I love. And this week we have a special guest. We have the man who ushered

in the age of the geek baby. I am intersected with with our guest host three times. Once he didn't know

about and then a couple of the times he made me do it. The first time was I was a writer for

Entertainment Weekly and I loved this this comic book called Global Frequency and the book was

being adapted for television by a fellow named John Rogers. And so I emailed John Rogers out

of the blue. I was like listen man I want to write for this TV show. I'm not writing it I'm just

journalist but I want to do this. And it's like hey you should come to the set and I said then I

will come to the set. So I'm asked to back over to the set of the show that ultimately never done

made because a new president came to the CW and didn't like the old stuff and broomed everything but

I got to know John. And then John you know over the course of at this point now like 10 to 15 years

were always kind of being my corner when I needed somebody in my corner. And the first time that

that manifested was to invite me to pitch about a television show that he was then for you some

called leverage. And I said I love leverage. I would love to pitch on leverage. What do you look

for in leverage? Is that well I need a heist? I need a thing to steal every week and I need you

to make my the stars in my show look good. And I pitched in like nine episodes of leverage and he

didn't buy any of them. But he kept inviting me to pitch leverage. Which you know the lesson

there is failure should not be an obstacle. It should just be incentive. And so every time that I
