Welcome to the happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Robert Puff. I want to ask an important question.

How can we tell if a person is really happy? Or more importantly, that I'm happy

myself. I mean, there are times in almost anyone's life where things are going well, sometimes extremely

well.

We go on vacation and we relax, we're having such a nice time with our family and friends. We get a promotion at our work

and we're celebrating this big change. We buy a new home or a new car or a new dress or a new purse and we're related for a little while.

We get together with our friends and we're partying and having such a good time and everything

seems wonderful. And then life happens.

And we notice we don't feel that good anymore.

And we see it so often in other people, we watch their social media accounts and it looks like their

lives are wonderful and yet sometimes we know these people and that's just not true.

We hear of celebrities or people out there that again life just seems to be

magical for them. But then they commit suicide or die of a drug overdose, how can they be happy?

What's going on here?

How do we tell that someone is happy, or again more importantly, that I'm truly happy on a consistent basis that for the most

part my life is going well and for the most part there's a sense of peace in my heart so that when I wake up in the morning,

there's a sense of peace in my heart.

And when I go to bed at night, I say, that was a good day. Let's explore whether this is even possible.

Well let's first look at extremes and what I mean by extremes is people that at times really do seem happy and enjoying their life

immensely and that at other times seem to be in the pit of despair and wanting to kill themselves or wishing they were dead.
