I want to welcome you to episode 378 of my podcast, who's paying attention.

And I hate to start this on such a downer, but I've read two horrible stories this past week. I don't know if you've heard

them. Horrible accounts of child abuse and murder. The one murdered was an eight-year-old girl. Her name was

Sophia Mason. This is hard to even, even read. It happened up in Hayward County, up in Northern California. So for more than a year, her aunt, grandmother, teachers, doctors, everybody was reporting

that the girl was being abused and neglected.

They talked to child services.

They talked to social workers.

They were begging them to take the child away from the mother.

Bruises, scabs, cigarette burns.

And all this reported to child welfare workers who would not take the kid away.

She was even, even the mother's boyfriend was accused of, of sexual abuse.

Of course, he denied.

They said, okay.

Well, ultimately, she was found dead.

She was found dead in a bathtub.

They left her outside. She was covered in in a bathtub. They left her outside.

She was covered in her own feces and filth.

She came inside.

Apparently the boyfriend grabbed her by the hair and threw her down because she was so dirty.

And the mom washed her in the bathtub and the next morning she was found dead.

They've been arrested.
