he should have done but he chose not to do it. It's not the

shame of ignorance or of being blindsided by circumstances or the shame of making

an honest mistake in a complicated world where the facts were maybe unclear and the outcome

was uncertain. No, it's something worse than that. It's the shame of recognition.
