There is huge context here, and I bring up this topic as too many people use knowledge acquisition by doing courses as a way to try and validate themselves, to find purpose and value, to be respected. But is this healthy? Will it lead to the outcome we want? Do my qualifications get me places, does the stamp and the piece of paper make me the best at what I do? After all, everyones got a degree these days...

0:07.0

0:16.2

I bring this up is we run a nutrition course, the BTN Academy, and I have certain qualifications that qualify me and what I do and

0:26.4

there's always a train in the fitness industry because it's the industry I'm in so

0:31.3

I use that as an example. There's always a train of

0:34.0

thought of you are the best if you have the most qualifications. Now that can be

0:39.6

true for certain industries and certain types of roles because it looks quite scientifically

0:47.0

0:52.0

doing a lot of courses around you know the physics and

0:55.6

you know different tooling and all that kind of stuff can be really positive when you work in an

1:00.5

industry that is based on, you know, having a grounding in a set of theories.

1:07.6

1:28.0

Then they can then go out and sell themselves and be proud of what they do and if I was to look back and

1:36.9

look at all the amazing work that I've done in my career and how often people have asked me to see my qualifications.

1:45.0

Now I've been in the fitness industry for, let's say 12 years and I've done a certain amount of qualifications and I stopped doing those

1:56.5

qualifications when I knew that the best thing for my career was to go out and

2:01.6

do it. Go out and do it and learn on the job. And of course keep learning

2:07.0

and keep being stimulated and keep getting mentoring. I think that's really important. I think

2:11.8

not enough people in life get mentoring

2:14.0

whatever career you're in get mentored or have someone that you can talk to that is
