Summary
If you're trying to lose fat but struggling to stay within a calorie deficit, today's episode is for you.
When your calorie budget is smaller during fat loss, every choice matters.
That's why today I'm sharing foods I personally refuse to waste my calorie budget on — and introducing a concept I teach my clients called "worth-it foods."
Calories are like money, and what you choose to spend your "budget" on has a huge impact on whether you hit your targets and actually lose body fat.
If you've been struggling with constant hunger, feeling unsatisfied, or mindlessly spending calories on foods that don't move the needle for your goals, this episode will help you become more intentional with your choices… and see better results because of it.

| 0:00.0 | Hello, my beautiful people. |
| 0:08.2 | Happy Monday. I'm coming at you with an episode that was really top of mind. |
| 0:13.3 | And I feel like you guys are going to relate, but also be able to take away how it can |
| 0:18.1 | apply to your fitness journey. Because over time, I hate calling them |
| 0:22.8 | rules because I feel like the word rule implies like it's something you have to follow when |
| 0:29.3 | you don't want to. But really, it's along the way over the past 10 or more years now, so crazy |
| 0:36.3 | to say, there's just little things I've picked up along the way. |
| 0:39.9 | And one of the things I've picked up along the way is that I don't like wasting calories. |
| 0:45.9 | There's nothing that bothers me more. The more you learn about nutrition. |
| 0:49.5 | When you are eating something because it's in front of you or it's there. And when you learn more about it, |
| 0:56.2 | you're like, why did I make that choice? Because it actually really wasn't even worth it to me. |
| 1:01.9 | And that is actually what inspired a concept I share with clients called Worth It Foods. |
| 1:06.4 | Like I think when dieting and trying to pursue intentional weight loss, you have less of a calorie |
| 1:13.0 | budget. I've always been known. I'm definitely the person to be known to say calories are like money. |
| 1:18.5 | And I like viewing it that way because I think how we as humans decide to spend money in a relationship |
| 1:23.8 | to money, there's a lot of similarities between food and nutrition and our calorie |
| 1:28.9 | budget. And we really do have a calorie budget every single day. When we're maintaining, |
| 1:34.0 | are we, we have slightly more calories, a few hundred more, nothing crazy, but we have slightly |
| 1:38.6 | more calories than when we're trying to lose weight. So obviously, if we are in a structured |
| 1:42.3 | fat loss phase, we have less calorie money to play around with. So we have to be more intentional with our choices. And so just like frivolous spending on shit you don't need is not helpful when you're trying to save money to put a down payment on a house purchase, right? For instance, that's a great example. Or, you know, pay for your son or daughter's tuition for school or, you know, pay a massive vet bill that you got or just like some, something that you're working yours or go on this like iconic vacation and you want to be able to treat yourself and enjoy yourself. Like, we have to find either ways to make more money, which exercise is kind of similar to that, right? You can kind of get more there. But ultimately, |
| 2:22.3 | there's a cap on it. This is not like a job in a profession where like kind of there's an unlimited ability for us to try to make more money as we work more and try to find better ways |
| 2:26.5 | to make money. But this is not the point. Like there becomes a max on how much more you can |
