Well, hello there. Welcome to drinking from the toilet. I'm your host, Hannah Branigan,

0:18.7

bringing you your weekly dose of positive reinforcement training

0:21.9

in the real world.

0:23.8

This week, we're going to talk about what makes a good reinforcer.

0:28.5

So in a recent video call with my zero to CD mentorship group, we were talking about what

0:34.5

makes a good reinforcer in our training. We had a chance to hang out with

0:38.6

my friend and friend of the pod, Shade Weitzel, and we were talking a lot about toys and play

1:25.1

wants and something that he wants to earn, something that he's

1:29.2

willing to work for. And that's true, but it's also maybe a little bit limiting if we stick

1:36.8

with that definition. I think it's really important, as I talk about often, to remember that

1:42.6

reinforcement is a process.

1:45.2

And it's a process that's defined by its results.

1:48.0

And sometimes that means there's a space,

1:51.1

there's a gap between what maybe me as the trainer

1:55.9

intends to be a reinforcer
