Summary

In this conversation, Lindsay Wood Brown and I attempt to unpack the concept of the Conditioned Emotional Response (CER) as applies to dog training. In addition to running through (and utterly confusing ourselves with) the terminology of the conditioned stimulus and unconditioned stimulus, etc, we also talk about practical application. And in both places, she worked on developing positive reinforcement-based behavior modification

programs for the dogs in their care, saving the lives of more and more animals and dramatically

increasing the rates of successful adoptions. She now mentors other behavior consultants and lectures

and consults for shelters all over the country. Now, a CER, if you've never heard the term before, stands for conditioned emotional response.
